GUTENBERG POETRY CORPUS — word frequency and proper-noun detection https://github.com/aparrish/gutenberg-poetry-corpus -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Compiled by Allison Parrish. The arrangement of excerpts is released under CC0 1.0 (public domain dedication). The underlying texts are drawn from Project Gutenberg and are in the public domain in the United States. Prosody ships only aggregate word counts derived from this corpus — no text from it is included in the application. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WHAT IS DELIBERATELY NOT IN HERE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Two things that an app like this would normally reach for were rejected on licensing grounds, and are worth naming so nobody re-adds them by accident: * Brysbaert, Warriner & Kuperman concreteness norms. The canonical source for word concreteness, and the obvious thing to use. Its distribution terms are ambiguous-to-restrictive for commercial products (the supplementary material is commonly published under CC BY-NC-ND). Prosody derives concreteness from WordNet's own noun hierarchy instead. * The Datamuse API. Free and excellent, but free for NON-COMMERCIAL use only; commercial use requires a paid agreement with Datamuse. Prosody replaced it with the embedded WordNet thesaurus. If you ever want Datamuse's extra breadth in a paid product, contact them for commercial terms first. * OpenSubtitles-derived frequency lists. The wrapper repositories are MIT, but the underlying corpus is third-party subtitle text distributed for research. Prosody counts its own frequencies from public-domain poetry instead. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- PROSODY ITSELF -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The application code, the cliché list, the phonological distance model, the scansion and elision rules, and the concreteness mapping over WordNet's ontology are original work and are yours to license however you choose.
